A Professional Photographer's Perspective: Canon EOS R5 Review

The Canon EOS R5 is a full-frame mirrorless camera that was released in July 2020. As a professional photographer with a family, two kids, a wife, a house, and a summer house at the beach, I was eager to try out this camera and see how it would fit into my upper-class lifestyle. In this review, I will share my experience using the Canon EOS R5 and provide my thoughts on its features, performance, and overall suitability for professional photography.

Features:

The Canon EOS R5 boasts a number of impressive features, including a 45-megapixel full-frame sensor, 8K video recording, and in-body image stabilization. As someone who primarily shoots still photos, I was particularly interested in the camera’s autofocus system, which includes Dual Pixel AF II with 1053 AF points. I found that this system provided fast and accurate autofocus, even in low light conditions.
Another feature that I appreciated was the camera’s articulating touchscreen, which made it easy to shoot from a variety of angles and positions. The touchscreen is also very responsive, allowing for quick and easy adjustments to settings and focus points.

Performance:

In terms of performance, the Canon EOS R5 did not disappoint. The camera is incredibly fast, with a burst rate of up to 20 frames per second when shooting with the electronic shutter. This made it easy to capture fast-moving subjects, such as my kids playing sports or running around at the beach.
I was also impressed by the camera’s low-light performance, which was excellent even at high ISO settings. This allowed me to shoot in a variety of lighting conditions, without having to worry about noise or grain in my photos.
One area where the Canon EOS R5 really shines is in its video capabilities. The camera can shoot 8K video at up to 30 frames per second, as well as 4K video at up to 120 frames per second. The video quality is excellent, with sharp, clear images and smooth, natural motion. I found that the camera’s in-body image stabilization also helped to minimize camera shake and produce smoother footage.

Suitability for Professional Photography:

As a professional photographer, I need a camera that is reliable, versatile, and capable of producing high-quality images. The Canon EOS R5 meets all of these requirements, and more. The camera is incredibly versatile, with a wide range of features and settings that can be customized to suit my shooting style and subject matter.
The camera’s build quality is also excellent, with a sturdy, weather-sealed body that can withstand the rigors of professional use. The battery life is also impressive, allowing me to shoot for long periods of time without having to stop and recharge.
One area where the Canon EOS R5 really excels is in its connectivity options. The camera includes both Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, making it easy to transfer images to my computer or smartphone for editing and sharing. The camera also supports FTP transfer, allowing me to send images directly to clients or colleagues from the camera itself.

Conclusion:

Overall, I was very impressed with the Canon EOS R5. The camera is packed with features and delivers excellent performance in both still and video shooting. As a professional photographer with a busy lifestyle, I appreciated the camera’s versatility and reliability, as well as its ability to produce high-quality images in a wide range of shooting conditions.
While the Canon EOS R5 is certainly not a cheap camera, it is worth the investment for anyone who is serious about photography and wants a camera that can keep up with their needs and demands. Whether you are shooting weddings, events, sports, or landscapes, the Canon EOS R5 is a camera that can handle it all with ease and produce stunning results.
